Newsletter 2022
Welcome to Karuna Living’s first Newsletter.
What a journey we have been on to get to this point.
We have jumped several hurdles to get here, not least gaining CQC registration in August 2020, full funding for the boys in October 2020 and somehow managed to build a team of fantastic support workers and all whilst living through a pandemic.
So there have been tough times, especially for the boys who found it so difficult not having access to their regular activities during isolation. We have gradually built processes, shaped our policies and established digital training platforms and care plans. We have also worked hard at creating a beautiful home for the boys to live in and the team to come to work in. With fantastic facilities to meet the needs of the boys. Not least our wonderful craft cabin, greenhouse and fire pit area.
I for one am so proud of what we have achieved and am now just looking ahead to being able to use the space we have created to further support the boys development.
Finally I just want to give a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who has helped us to get to where we are today… and fingers crossed we come through our first inspection with flying colours.

Person centred planning update
We have been focusing on activities recently and how as a team we can make them more person centred.
Questionnaires were given to parents and staff to find out "Who Matters, What Matters and Where Matters" to the boys, and what particular interests the staff have which could be incorporated into weekly activities. It was great to see that what parents and staff considered important was very similar. We are now putting together a weekly activity planner to include, arts and crafts, a weekly exercise and healthy eating plan, gardening projects and holistic therapies such as relaxation, meditation and a multi sensory activity programme.
We have also been discussing ideas on how to fund raise for some additional facilities.
We have already made a good start on certain areas as you can see by the following photos!

The garden has been developing over the last year and now features a new greenhouse and fire pit area along with the addition of some fruit trees and plenty of beautiful plants and flowers. The staff and boys have been growing their own vegetables and making chutney!
The boys get involved in the upkeep, by mowing the lawn, weeding and brushing.
Fantastic family and staff BBQ in summer 2020!
Community engagement and activities
The "boys" are really starting to enjoy some community activities such as enjoying the Christmas decorating, attending a black tie event, fishing when away on holiday and volunteering at the local food bank.
